Ghetto Heaven Presents Jazzy Jeff @ Zouk 2 December, 10pm While Will Smith heads off into the acting world, DJ Jazzy Jeff is sticking true to his name. He’ll be back to give a strong dosage of hip hop and r ‘n’ b mix. A household name since the mid-80s thanks to his partnership with rapper-turned-actor Will Smith, DJ Jazzy Jeff and his partner-in-rhyme, the Fresh Prince, helped bring hip-hop into the suburbs of America, selling over 10 million records, and winning three Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, two NAACP Awards, two Soul Train Music Awards and a MTV Music Award along the way. Though he is best known as one of the first hip-hop popstars, DJ Jazzy Jeff has always been more than just a DJ. In addition to being widely credited with making the Transformer Scratch one of the most essential tools in any self-respecting DJ's repertoire, Jeff founded his full-scale musical production facility, A Touch Of Jazz in 1990. With an in-demand cadre of young producers and songwriters, A Touch Of Jazz is one of the most revered production houses in America. Now, Jeff's instincts are leading him to sculpt, perfect and project his already definitive music into the future. His production style has succeeded in providing other acts with substance and stability. 2005 holds only hope and anticipation for Jazzy Jeff as both DJ and producer. Come and share his unbridled passion for diverse music, in all shapes and forms. This event is brought to you by Pepsi. (Editor's note: just super awesome!! Now that's how you mix Mr. DJ!!) More significantly, DJ Mag has just ranked him #2 in the world in their annual Top 100 poll for the second consecutive year. Today, Paul's touring diary is incredibly hectic with regular globetrotting stops at major venues in London, Tel Aviv, Mexico, New York and now, Kuala Lumpur. Between all that, Berlin is always there and waiting, if not for the interviews and local club dates, then for looking after his own label Vandit, recording studio and his radio show Soundgarden. RM60 (inclusive of 2 drinks) DJ Pippi @ Velvet Underground 11 December, 10pm He’s had over 20 years of DJ experience and even earned himself two stints at Ibiza’s Pacha club. In the summer of 1984, DJ Pippi started to become known in musical circles in Ibiza, and one of his tapes was picked up by the management of Pacha, who realised that this talented Italian was the right person to make Pacha an unmissable venue in the disco circuits of the world. Without hesitation, the disco's owners offered him the contract that would change his life. DJ Pippi has worked two different stints in Pacha. The first time was between 1984 and 1987, and the second one started in 1991 and he is still playing there for special events. Amid these two stints, DJ Pippi signed a contract to work in the disco Ku (today's Privilege). So this veteran DJ has been playing records for more than 20 years. It is a job that takes up most of the year, as in summer he is one of the institutions of Ibiza , and during the winter he travels the world playing music on all five continents. On the 11 th December, DJ Pippi will make Kuala Lumpur his next stop and Velvet Underground is privileged to host this stalwart of the Ibiza club scene. DJ Pippi gives us some Italian love as he brings the sounds of Ibiza to KL’s dance floor. Winners Notified Cream presents Dimitri from Paris “After the Playboy Mansion” @ Cream, Renaissance Hotel, Kuala Lumpur 29th December 2004 . Wednesday . 2100hrs – 0300hr Style: uplifting house Come to the new club Cream opening at Renaissance Hotel, KL (Previously Roxy Club). Dimitri from Paris is a DJ, producer, and remixer all rolled into one who serves as the French Ambassador to lounges and dance floors around the world. He is the quintessential gentleman, straight out of the 17th century, and the most sought after DJ superstar quite able to get any club on the planet jumping! In a nutshell, there are two distinct sides to Dimitri: undeniably a born-and-bred French dandy, he is also a devoted dance music fanatic and a worthy heir to such legendary New York DJs as François K, David Mancuso, Danny Krivit, Tony Humphries and Frankie Knuckles. Dimitri is known not only for his love of early 70's funk and the disco music that came along afterwards, but also for his long-term love affair with original soundtracks by Mancini and from Blake Edwards' films such as "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "The Party", dating back to the late 50's and early 60's. In the 80's, he explored all types of emerging post-disco music and became a big fan of electro, block party hip-hop, and the West End and Sugarhill Gang labels. Inevitably, Dimitri would be one of the first DJs to broadcast the new Chicago house and New Jersey garage sounds. He also concocted several disco/house compilations, including the infamous "A Night at the Playboy Mansion" (Virgin) and "Disco Forever" (BBE) in 2000, followed by “After the Playboy Mansion” in 2002. These three records alone accounted for more than half a million copies sold throughout the world. He took the time to prepare the follow-up to the Playboy project "After the Playboy Mansion"; – on which he gives his musical interpretation of Hugh Hefner's mansion, while making a name for himself as a real modern and international playboy. Dimitri may be one of the most difficult artists to categorize. He is known as a DJ, producer, remixer, artist and musician and his music is called lounge, house, electro and disco.
