KUALA LUMPUR – A new concept of music festival is expected to take the local music scene by storm this November when well-known artistes that have been lined up for this illustrious event will perform at a 10-day jam-packed music extravaganza aptly named Live & Loud KL 07.
Touted as the largest, most sensational and longest running music festival in South East Asia - Live & Loud KL 07 is expected to bring out a screaming horde of fans when they converge in harmonic fusion for the first time ever in the Klang Valley. It will start from 23 November to 2 December, where each passing day greets festival-goers with a solid 60 to 90 minutes live music play of different genre, different theme, different repertoire, different venue and most definitely different uber-stars.
While most music festivals are targeted at teenagers, Live & Loud KL 07 is unique as the event is organised for all age groups. Divided into three different categories – Main Events, Thematic and Fringe Events, Live & Loud KL 07 will be a truly amazing sensory experience for music aficionados as they indulge in the sight and sounds of famous celebrities - international, regional and also local.
Music enthusiasts can choose to go with friends or family members for the Main Events – Chinese All Stars, Turn on the Pop and the World Music, Heritage & Culture; or enjoy the Thematic Events which encompass Best of 80s, Acoustic, R&B and Jazz.
Big names who have been lined for this mega event include Whitney Houston, Elliott Yamin, James Taylor Quartet and Shaggy for Turn on the Pop; Mint Condition and K-Ci & Jojo for R&B; and James Morrison for Acoustic. There will also be an exclusive Dinner Show featuring the five-time Grammy Award winner, Dionne Warwick.
Live & Loud KL 07 will kick off with dynamic performances from Chinese All Stars on 25 November 2007, featuring A-Mei, Michael Wong, Fish Leong, among others. Bask in a night full of ballad songs as the stars belt out a succession of what will be the most memorable evening. There will also be an exclusive dinner show with Dionne Warwick to be held at Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Live music performances under the Main and Thematic Events will be held at Bukit Kiara Equestrian Park and Stadium Negara respectively while Jazz will be at the Zouk.
It will also offer fun days of entertainment for the whole family as the event will be held during school holidays. Besides that, Live & Loud KL 07 gives festival-goers a chance to explore the art and commerce of the music industry, which comprises of Fringe Events themed as Music Cube, Visuals, Raw on Stage and Club as well as Seminars and Workshops. The Music Cube is a kiosk-like cube where everyone can learn more about Live & Loud KL 07.
Decked with computer terminals, one can search for more information about the shows, the artistes, the venues, the Seminars and Workshops, and even download stuff to one’s mobile and handheld. They are located in prominent spots within the Klang Valley with operating hours in tandem with its location.
The Music Cube’s partner-in-crime – the Visual, will showcase information about artistes who will be performing along with specially autographed limited edition memorabilia. Both the Music Cube and Visual will be located at several strategic indoor and outdoor venues within the Klang Valley and these include Cineleisure, Shangri-La Hotel, KL Sentral, among others.
Under Raw on Stage, the underground stars from Malaysia and the rest of the world will be able to showcase their performances - a step in helping these musicians launch their careers and for record labels to rope in new talents. Finally, the Club complements the Raw on Stage where heart-thumping electronic tunes will set one’s feet on fire with hot guest DJs from local and abroad take to the tables in Zouk and other hot clubs.
This mega event is organised by Live & Loud Sdn Bhd and is endorsed by the Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year. It is expected to arouse the interest of international visitors and make them aware that Malaysia has risen to be a premiere destination of choice for music and entertainment-based tourism. At the same time, it will also put Malaysia on the map as the centre of arts, culture and music in this part of the world.
Individual tickets for all the shows, including season passes, starting from as low as RM80, have been made available from 15 October 2007. For the family-based event World Music, Heritage & Culture, parents who intend to bring four of their children aged below 12 years old can enjoy free admission for the children. Black Eyed Peas: Black, Blue & You Tour 2007
Event Review:
The Black Eyed Peas performed in Genting– City of Entertainment as part of their worldwide Black Blue & You Tour 2007 to a crowd of over 5,000 people. The show was held in Arena of Stars on 26th October 2007.
Invited to review the event, we journeyed up to the Highlands. Members of the press were treated to the Press Conference two days earlier with band members Will.i.am, Fergie, Taboo and Apl.de.ap who willingly answered our questions and even did their hands prints in plaster.
Having met the group backstage, seeing their concert in 2004 at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort and again at the Force of Nature event in 2005, it was hard to imagine how different it would be this time. Expectations were high.
The Peas have been travelling around the world as part of their tour taking them across various continents like Europe, South America, South Africa and Asia. They’ve also been busy with a host of material since their last visit.
Fergie launched her solo effort with a string of hits like “Fergalicious”, “Glamorous”, “London Bridge” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry”. Will.i.am has also recently released his solo effort “Songs About Girls” with “I Got It from My Mama”, already popularly hitting the airwaves. Judging from his album, there will be more hits in store.
They also released their “Monkey Business: album after “Elephunk” and another collaboration album with Sergio Mendes. We were also told that Taboo and Apl were also working on their own albums too. Fans need not worry, they are not breaking up. We were reassured during the interview.
Fans were treated to a two hour energetic performance, featuring all their chart and award winning hits back to back. Will.i.am and Fergie also sang their own album hit materials like “I Got It from My Mama” and “Big Girls”, Fergalicious” and “London Bridge” respectively as well. They sang a total of 23 songs including “Hey Mama”, “My Humps”, “Don’t Lie”, “Mas Que Nada” and Don’t Phunk with my Heart”.
Just when they stopped and said goodnight, apparently they had a 1am flight to catch, the crowd screamed for an encore and they came back on belting out “Pump It”, “Where is the Love” and finished it off with “Let’s Get It Started”. What a night.
Overall, the concert was amazing and we have to thank Genting – City of Entertainment for inviting us. Now to see Live & Loud Kuala Lumpur. A tiny birdie also said someone was working to bring Justin Timberlake down. He’s apparenly coming to town in early-mid Dec once sponsors are confirmed. Can’t wait! :)
Press Release:
The Black Eyed Peas transcended their raw hip-hop roots and have become one of the music industry’s global phenomenon. The quartet won over the crowd with the monster-stomp ‘Elephunk’ in 2003. ‘Elephunk’ was a breakthrough album for The Black Eyed Peas, vaulting them to a level of success unparalleled by any other hip-hop group. The accolades are quick to recite: 7.5 million albums sold worldwide, 4 Grammy nominations, 1 Grammy award, and an unforgettable performance on the 2005 broadcast. Global hits such as “Where Is The Love”, “Hey Mama”, “Let’s Get It Started” and “Shut Up” elevated the group’s name.
With the forth album, ‘Monkey Busines’ (2005), the Black Eyed Peas solidified their status as hip-hop’s power group. Their fourth album further intensifies their passion for making music together and for connecting with their audience through the most fundamental way: making people have a good time. ‘Monkey Business’ raised William, Fergie, apl.de.ap and Taboo status with hits such as “Don’t Phunk With My Heart”, “Don’t Lie”, “My Humps” and “Pump It”.
Over the years, the Black Eyed Peas have received accolades and recognition for their music. In 2004, the group received a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for “Let’s Get It Started”. In 2005 and 2006, the group again won for the same category for their hits “Don’t Phunk With My Heart” and “My Humps”, respectively.
Don’t miss the chance to catch the sensation hip-hop group in action as they party at Genting Highland Resort on 26th Oct! Tickets are on sale now for RM120, RM220, RM320, RM420 and RM550. Leading the massive 10,000-capacity Recharge Godskitchen Arena is a true Revelation hero, Dutch trance icon Johan Gielen. One of the highlights of Recharge Revelation3 in 2005 was the sight of 15,000 clubbers hanging onto his every move. Performing alongside him will be fellow Dutchmen Sander Van Doorn – a DJ Magazine Top 100 star in his own right – and Marcel Woods – a DJ who has brought the sound of the hard trance scene’s underground raves and warehouse parties overground. Along with Finland’s DJ Proteus, one of the world’s top hard dance jocks, and local boys Bass Agents and Fono, the Recharge Godskitchen Arena is well sorted out.
Elsewhere, the Recharge Global Arena is headlined by Layo & Bushwacka, the electro, techno and breaks superstars whose eclectic style has made them one of the most in-demand festival performers on the circuit. Also on the bill are the cheekily-named Astro & Glyde, whose deep and twisted post-Twilo sound has made their infamous Sunday Sessions night New York’s hottest. Ibiza regulars, The Shapeshifters, add their Balearic techno to the Recharge Global Arena mix, and Global Gathering resident, DJ Eston, completes the party vibe of the stage with funk and jazz tinged journey through electronica.
Over at the TQX Freedom Electric Arena there are two distinct flavours. Day-time sees the stage take a more live flavour, courtesy of headliners Black Strobe, the French electro-rock group whose recent debut album, Burn Your Own Church, looks set to become one of the critical raves of the year. Joining them on the bill are Thailand’s top electro sleaze rockers Futon.
When the suns goes down, the TQX Freedom Electric Arena hypes the energy levels even further with sets from Plump DJs, arguably the top breaks and party DJs in the world. They will be joined by hip hop legends, Jungle Brothers featuring Mike G. Support comes from local acts, DJ Blink – Recharge Revelation’s in-house DJ ambassador – and DJ Goldfish, premiering his Spaceship project, as well as local hip hop crew Stylustiks.
Rock fans should also be at the fest, as the TQX Freedom Amp Stage will present some of the region’s top bands (Pop Shuvit, Lied, I Am David Sparkle). Indie disco turntable poppers, Twilight Actiongirl, feature alongside Indonesia’s rock-influenced electro decks ‘n’ fx show of Agrikulture, and Thailand’s Rehab gives Futon mainman Bee a chance to show off behind the decks. And from Singapore there’s the indie-rock turntable madness of Beat!
The best local and international DJs have been kept for the Recharge Foam Bar with hometown DJs like Raysoo, DJ Gabriel, Joey G (CosmicSpaceMunkys), and Groovedoctor, as well as international talents like Damian Saint (Britain), Josh Ezelle (US), DJ Anton Wirojono (Indonesia), Remy Irwan (Indonesia) and Voilah! (Singapore) set to take on the decks. Other international artists that are confirmed playing at the festival will be Simian Mobile Disco and Hyper (Live).
