Partymoto Release Club Sessions: DJ Sawa at The Disco

The Partymoto Release Club Sessions enters its second month as the series contiues with another top flight dance music DJ. Tokyo resident DJ Sawa, one of Japan’s biggest supporters of progressive house music, arrives this weekend to play at The Disco, Kuala Lumpur, his first official performance in Malaysia. Sawa has been establishing his sense of style through sexy, strong and funky house music since the mid-90s. His CD “Progress + Transcend”, the first progressive house mix CD made in Japan, was acclaimed as a “hypnotic musical journey” and selected as one of the best compilations of 2000 by the Japanese press. Playing in and out Tokyo and Japan, he has spread his influence to Hong Kong (appearing at Heavenly Movement @ Legal Airport Hotel), Indonesia (Stadium @ Jakarta), New Zealand (Auckland and Christchurch) and to the US. On top of appearing with top dance music acts Satoshi Tomiie, John Creamer, Nigel Dawson, Blu Peter, Salt Tank, Evolution and Slacker, he is the organiser of the hit club night Sublimation @ Liquid Room as well. In March 2002, his set at the Pioneer/Bedrock party at the Miami Winter Music Conference set the global dance industry abuzz, as he played with Chris Fortier, Way Out West and DJ Hyper. Following this, his CD “Compiled And Mixed By DJ Sawa” was released on the famous and respected progressive house label Bedrock (owned by the king of the scene John Digweed). In 2004 he devoted himself to the Asian circuit and started his residency at Tokyo's biggest bash Paradise Ball @ ageHa, as well as playing for Redemption by HX Production in Hong Kong and at the infamous Nation.04 party in Singapore. His last mix CD “Nation.04” debuted at No.3 on the HMV Dance And Soul chart in Singapore and was at No.17 on the HMV Top 40 chart the next week. DJ Sawa is the third of four dance music acts to appear for the Partymoto Release Club Sessions. Sydney DJ Alex Taylor played at The Disco on 2 April, whilst LA and Bangkok-based DJ Giorgio Acosta played for Bliss @ twelveSI on 16 April. The final club act for the series, Melbourne DJ Eric Powell, will appear for Atmosphere @ twelveSI in two weeks. Partymoto Release Club Sessions at The Disco: Sat 14 May : 9pm

Ben Sims @ Zouk Mainroom Friday, 6th May 2005 Ben Sims got his first set of turntables aged ten. Immersed in pirate radio and mixtape culture he’d hunted down recordings from home and abroad. The States offered Levan, Cash Money, DJ Cheese, Red Alert, Bambaataa and Grandmaster Flash. The UK gave him Froggy, Westwood, Jah Shaka and Hardrock Soul Movement. Shifting from C-60s to vinyl he’d applied similar vigour, finding reggae, funk , disco and rare groove when not feeding his hip-hop habit. He was spinning at friends’ parties and after-hours ‘blues’ houses by his mid-teens, and a few years later played a key role in giving the emergent warehouse movement a distinct voice; the pirate station Atmosphere FM. Government policy would deal rave a succession of concussive blows, but it moved into clubs and Ben moved with it. In a genre that propagates soundalikes, Ben Sims’ production has attracted widespread attention and has seen it’s far share of copycat productions. He’s been acknowledged by contemporaries as creating a postive techno style-shift, his work supported by a broad cross-section of DJs and is regularly featured in the boxes of his own personal heroes like Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, Jeff Mills, Rolando etc in addition to almost all of the high profile techno jocks on the worldwide circuit. He has remixed Jeff Mills, Green Velvet, Blake Baxter, Marco Bailey, Chris Liebing and Adam Beyer (full discography attached) and alongside many upcoming projects has a forthcoming artist album on the forward-thinking UK label Peacefrog. Admission (inc 1 drink): RM 30 before 11pm, RM35 (L) / RM40 (M) after 11pm Push presents Luke Fair @ Zouk Mainroom Saturday, 7th May 2005 Much of the credit for the recent buzz over Toronto’s budding dance scene falls on the shoulders and turntables of DJ Luke Fair. Chosen by DJ Magazine as one of their “faces to watch for in 2003,” Fair has begun his assault on the international dance music scene with an eclectic style that includes twisted vocal house, funky progressive and trippy electro-tech. His first exposure to club culture was being hired as a busboy at Toronto's legendary, now-defunct Industry Nightclub. It was there that he refined his ear for all forms of dance music, and made the decision to give DJing and producing a shot after hearing sets every weekend from legends such as Derrick Carter, David Morales, Roger Sanchez and Cevin Fisher. Within 4 months, he went from being a busboy, to the club's sound and lighting engineer, to being asked by co-owner and Toronto legend, DJ Matt C, to man the opening dj slot on Saturday nights. He happily accepted and did it right up until Industry shut their doors for good in August 2000. Luke subsequently went on to a residency at Toronto’s popular “Breathe” night at System Soundbar, known for it’s progressive sound and dance frenzied crowds and repeated gigs at Guvernment (Toronto) and venues worldwide. Most recently, Luke Fair has garnered attention for his studio efforts, with genre-crossing white label remixes of U2’s “Silver & Gold,” which has enjoyed repeated plays by top DJs, the likes of Danny Tenaglia, Deep Dish, Pete Tong and John Digweed. In fact, Digweed liked the cut so much, he invited Fair to sign to his Bedrock label. Since then, Fair has completed a remix of Moonface's “Futurized Fears,” a two-sided 'ragga-house' single titled 'Kritical,' a remix of Satoshi Tomiie's “Virus” for SAW, Kings Of Tomorrow's “I Want You” for Yoshitoshi, Express Soul's “I'm Waiting” for Fade, and Lorient's “Salvation” for Inversus. He recorded one disc on the critically acclaimed Yoshitoshi ‘In House We Trust’ 3 CD Series and commandeered the world tour. Keep an eye out for groundbreaking releases and headlining performances from Luke in the upcoming year. Admission (inc 1 drink): RM30 before 11pm; RM35 (L)/RM40 (M) after 11pm Past Party of Liquid Wednesday, 11th May 2005 . 9pm onwards (by invitation only) So long farewell, they need to say goodbye. Godskitchen presents Marco V @ Zouk Mainroom Friday, 20th May 2005 Dutchman Marco V started to spin records at the age of 14, three years before pitch controls were first introduced to turntables. By 1996 Marco was installed as the resident of ‘De Danssalon’, the biggest club in Eindhoven, presenting him with the opportunity to showcase his undoubted talents to the rest of his country. ‘De Danssalon’ soon became the most renowned Friday night in Holland and shortly after Marco had started his residency he met his producing partner Benjamin Bates. Marco and Benjamin began producing tracks together and it was through this artform that Marco was given the opportunity to have his talents acknowledged on the worldwide stage. Marco has since performed at two of the biggest events in Holland: Innercity at the Amsterdam RAI and Sensation at the Amsterdam Arena. Having mixed and compiled the ‘Live At Innercity’ compilation and produced ‘In Charge’ and ‘Godd’ the respective theme songs for Innercity 2000 and 2001, Marco V has reached cult status in his home country. It was with the release of the V.ision series on ID&T in 2001, that Marco hit the big time. V.ision Phase 02, featuring ‘Indicator’ and ‘Certainly’, broke Marco to the rest of the world and it was promptly snapped up by Tall Paul’s Duty Free label for a full release in the U.K. Marco is now subjected to an unrelenting worldwide demand for his DJ sets and remixes, having recently been invited to remix one of the greatest dance tracks of all time: The Future Sound Of London’s ‘Papua Nu Guinea’.Winning performances in the UK at Godskitchen and Gatecrasher have helped to elevate Marco’s popularity and his releases are now awaited as eagerly as those of the world’s most celebrated producers and DJs. Marco has the extreme talents and unique ability to lead the forefront of the tech trance movement; producing and spinning classy, hard edged dance music, set to stand the test of time. His style appeals to and compels followers of techno, trance and even hard house, transcending the politics and dogma that has polluted some sectors of the dance music scene. Marco’s relentless hard work will culminate this year with the release of a double CD album titled Con:Fusion. The first is a studio album while CD2 features a live turntable mix including unreleased tracks not present on CD1. Set for a UK release in Autumn 2002, ‘Con:Fusion’ is sure to propel Marco V into the realms of DJ superstardom. Admission (inc 1 drink): RM 35 (before 11pm); RM40 (L) & RM45 (M) after 11pm Eve of Wesak Holiday @ The Disco Saturday, 21st May 2005 Featuring DJs: Jason M, Gary, & Fendie Door Charge: RM 28 + 1 drink Eclectic Phunk featuring Tony Tay & DJ Blink @ Zouk Mainroom Sunday, 22nd May 2005 DJ Blink - Don't let the name fool you. With his infectious combination of breaks, hip hop, funk, and electro, this hardcore clubber turned DJ is bound to open your eyes to whole new mix of groovy vibes. He began his journey behind the turntables spinning progressive tunes. Since then, his music has evolved rapidly developing a sense of style and maturity that's both unique and adventurous. Constantly pushing the limits, his turntable skills transcend the versatility of a Club DJ. This is evident when he finished 2nd and 3rd in VESTAX 2002 and 2003 and his most famed win, last year's Heineken Found @Thirst 2004 Champion. With deft mixing techniques and a passion for invading and incorporating various genres of music, Blink's routines are nothing less than an insane ride. I heard from Tiesto and the other Thirst DJ's that they judged were of a very high standard, even better than the South American DJs, I heard DJ Blink from Malaysia is very good. In general, technical awareness and quality are very high." - Pete Tong. Dare you miss? Review: Digital Cut-up Lounge at Bliss

Digital Cutup Lounge Live in Kuala Lumpur Electronic music maestros kick-start Discover Music with Hennessy V.S.O.P 2005 Kuala Lumpur, 6 May 2005 – Discover Music with Hennessy V.S.O.P 2005 took off today with an exhilarating live performance by the renowned electronic duo of Digital Cutup Lounge (DCL), John Von Seggern (USA) and Stephen Ives (UK), at Bliss, the Lounge at twelveSI. It was worth the wait as they took the stage and got us snapping our fingers to the jazzy electronica percussion backed performance. Von Seggern and Ives’ exclusive Kuala Lumpur gig was accompanied by supporting instrumentalists comprising a percussionist, bass guitarist, keyboardist and drummer. Their music productions have been featured on international CD compilations such as Eastern Sunrise (Universal Music Group, 2001) and Groove Sessions (Petrol Records, 2001). In addition to performing live over radio and television broadcasts, DCL has also applied their uniquely warped music to remixes for artists such as David Bowie, Madonna, Astrud Gilberto, Barry White, Nelly Furtado, Enrique Iglesias Sam Hui and Bollywood singer Asha Bhonsle. Click here for more info on DCL. The Discover Music with Hennessy V.S.O.P 2005 series will feature both local and international acts in some of the most fashionable outlets in the Klang Valley over six exciting ‘chill-out’ sessions. You have to check out the next jazz performer, Cat Peng.. as we wrote in our previous article.. she is awesome!! We can't wait!! TiE & TM presents GIS and GPS Technologies in LBS Application

It has been a while since Talent-ideas-Enterprise (TiE) Malaysia Chapter organised an event, we sincerely apologise for delay and to kickstart the year 2005; We are pleased to announce our First Event for the year on "GIS and GPS Technologies in LBS Application" Malaysia lags in adoption of GIS both in the public and private sector. For example, 90% of US Government agencies use GIS in their operation while it may well be less than 30% in Malaysia. Similarly, application of technologies involving location aware devices (using GPS or other means) are yet to be exploited fully for commercial gains in the country. The rapid development in Mobile Data Communication may well fuel the growth of both technologies in the coming years, especially in providing Location Base Services (LBS). These present tremendous opportunities open a vast array of possibilities for technopreneurs with “Talent Idea” to work with Telekom Malaysia in creating the future killer products and service. We wish to thank TM Geomatics & TM Berhad, for their kind support and hospitality. Thursday, May 12, 2005 Time: 6.30pm-10.30pm Venue: Little Havana, 2&4, Lorong Sahabat, Off Changkat Bukit Bintang, 50200, Kuala Lumpur Keynote Speaker Mr Tan Yong Teck Assistant General Manager TM Geomatics - A Division of TM Bhd Entrance Fee TiE Members: Free Non-Members: Free For membership details please visit www.tiemalaysia.org
