#Eatsomethingnice article 1 - Assam Laksa

frigglive is proud to be a part of Anas Zubedy's initiative the #SaySomethingNice campaign, where we are encouraged to spend 17 days from Hari Merdeka to Hari Malaysia encouraging truce and showcasing the best about our nation. During this short period, we portray Malaysia in a very positive light; we appreciate Malaysia. This is the third year Zubedy is running this campaign.

For 17 days, we put aside our partisanship, we put aside our locality, we put aside our race; rich or poor it does not matter, we just be Malaysians. And we say positive things about Malaysia. Frigglive's initiative is called #eatsomethingnice, and here's our 1st installment - Assam Laksa.

Urbanscapes Festival 2013

Press Release

Discover the stars of Urbanscapes and win an All-Access Pass to Urbanscapes Festival and Urbanscapes Satellite shows. From 15 August to 25 August we’ll be hiding QR codes around the Klang Valley and posting clues to their whereabouts on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Be the first person to scan the code and reveal the artist it hides and you’ll walk away with a very cool Urbanscapes All-Access Pass worth an even cooler RM397 that will give you access to Urbanscapes Festival and all Urbanscapes Satellite Shows.

Kuala Lumpur – Get ready to make your November a whole lot bigger as Urbanscapes Festival 2013, The Big Weekend, in association with Malaysia Conference & Exhibition Bureau (MYCEB) and partners, returns with an explosion in the sky of music, arts, fashion, comedy, visual design and, of course, people. On Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th we’ll be revealing Malaysia’s most diverse line up of creative talent for a weekend-long carousel of creativity and fun for all ages.

Urbanscapes is Malaysia’s largest and longest-running creative arts festival. Two days in November where everyone gets to play a part. It’s a place to stumble upon something new. To picnic with strangers. To watch and feel as the sun sets. Somewhere to dance under the stars. To hug. To kiss. To laugh uncontrollably. To watch the world grow a smile. Moments. This is the weekend you’ve been waiting for; the city’s Big Weekend.

For 2013, even our venue is bigger. We’ll be unveiling Urbanscapes at a fantastic new venue, the Malaysian Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS). With around 12 acres of lawns, hills and gardens to play with we’re letting our imaginations run wild, not to mention adding a dash of European-style pastoral festival chic to the sleek urbanism of Urbanscapes. Want to watch your favourite bands from the comfort of a gently rolling hillside? Get away from the crowd and chill with your friends under a canopy of trees and woodland? Urbanscapes Festival 2013 will be an amazing place to relax, hang out and enjoy the magic of the festival.

In and around it all we’ll have some of the region’s best food vendors, retailers, musicians, artists, comedians, thespians and all the artwork, installation pieces and excitement they can create in four specially created zones, complete with their own entertainment stages. We’re not going to say too much, but their names, The Commons, Woods, End of the Road and The Field should give you an idea of size and scope of our Big Weekend.

Headlining the Big Weekend are Scottish indie rockers Franz Ferdinand, who will be in town for an exclusive performance at Urbanscapes Festival. It’s a concert not to be missed for festival-goers around the region as Malaysia will be the ONLY South East Asian stop in their leg of the tour in support of their fourth album Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action. Also confirmed in the international line-up so far are the excellent Two Door Cinema Club, Efterklang, and Tegan and Sara.

The Canadian indie rock twins, Tegan and Sara will be touring in support of their seventh studio album Heartthrob, released in January 2013 and debuting at #3 on the Billboard 200 Chart. Influenced by synth pop and punk rock, the siblings, who’ve been making music since 1995, have gained a steadfast following and been nominated for numerous awards, including several Juno Awards, a Grammy Award for their Get Along DVD and most recently, they took home the Canadian Radio Music Award for Best New Group.

Complementing the Big Weekend are two Satellite Show
s at KL Live, with Explosions in the Sky and Mew performing on 31 October and Metric on 3 December.

Line up announcements also so far include the very tasty Pierre Hollins, the comedian Time Out London describes with just two words – ‘Bloody Funny’ – Oh Chenatku!, Kyoto Protocol, They Will Kill Us All, Kuah Jenhan, Studio Bikin and Allthatissolid. Stay tuned for some major announcements over the next few weeks. We’re going to be teasing out some of our headliners and collaborators and we’re pretty confident it’s going to spark some serious water cooler conversations!

Satellite Shows
This year, for the first time, we’re asking you to start the Big Weekend early, and join us for a series of exclusive Urbanscapes Satellite Shows. On October 31st we’re very pleased to announce a line up of two incredible bands for you at KL Live. For their long-awaited return to KL, we bring you the awesome cosmic post rock power of Explosions in the Sky. The Texans are known for the catchy yet pure cinematic grandeur of their music, the band has an enormous following in Malaysia. Loved the world over for their dynamic stage presence and sheer intensity every show they play here becomes a huge occasion.

Joining them will be one of Denmark’s leading underground acts, the mighty Mew. Formed in 1994 this trio have been labelled dream pop, shoegaze, indie, alt, post rock and even new prog which simply shows how hard it is to categorise their sound. We agree with them, that they’re ‘the world’s only indie stadium band’, as they make catchy and accessible off-kilter pop that’s equally at home when you’re making Sunday breakfast as it in a heaving rock venue.

Some people might think that Imperial is best but at Urbanscapes we’ve always preferred Metric. Especially when Metric are the stars of our second Satellite Show on December 3rd at KL Live. Over five albums the Canadian New Wave and synth pop influenced have built a hardcore global fanbase, based around an incendiary reputation for their live shows and festival performances. Accomplished crowd-pleasers, the band is also known for throwing impromptu cover versions and other musical surprises into its live sets.

To help you make the most of your Urbanscapes experience, we’re offering a buy-one-see-all ticket in the shape of our All-Access Pass. These very limited tickets are available at RM397 and offer entry to Urbanscapes Festival and all Satellite Shows. Individual tickets for the shows are priced at RM177 (per show).

Stay tuned to our social media channels for more Urbanscapes Satellite Show announcements.

Tickets are available from www.ticketpro.com.my as well as KL Live, Rock Corner (not at Bangsar Village branch), Victoria Music and The Bee outlets.

Chatting with the artists. Dancing in the mud. Show us what Urbanscapes really means to you.

Heineken Starclub at Good Vibes Festival 2013

Press Release

Heineken debuts Starclub at Good Vibes Festival 2013

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 August 2013 – With just three more days left to Malaysia’s first ever Good Vibes Festival, the festival site is steadily taking shape as we speak. Heineken will be unveiling the inaugural arrival of Starclub on our shores as Sepang International Go-Kart Circuit is transformed into a party central this Saturday.

After making appearances at music festivals around the globe - Defqon.1, Loveland, Mysteryland - and playing host to the likes of Tiësto and Calvin Harris, this year Heineken Starclub makes its debut on Malaysian soil.

Introducing a new formula in the outdoor event scene – Starclub – the two storey porous pavilion with an indoor & outdoor club feel transports attendees to a unique music experience marrying the best of both worlds; a place where you can experience the rays of sunlight stream in during the day and feel darkness slink in as nightfall slowly blankets the sky over Starclub.

Heineken Starclub also serves as one of the festival’s three stages with an exciting line up of regional & homegrown acts: Poptart from Singapore, Dudesweet from Thailand, Dipha Barus from Indonesia and Malaysia’s very own Deer Society, Twilight Actiongirl and Goldfish.

Touted to be the perfect place to get your dancing shoes on, claim a piece of the dance floor at Starclub as the eclectic mixture of music resound through the speakers. Be the first to experience the good vibes at Heineken Starclub this Saturday!

Alongside this and of course great music with acts such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Modest Mouse, Ash and Japandroids to name a few, Good Vibes will feature art installations and fashion exhibits curated specially for the event.

Good Vibes Festival takes place at Sepang International Go-Kart Circuit on August 17. Get your pre-sale tickets at RM158 till August 16 at all Rock Corner outlets, Chic Yamada, Unity Store, Wheel Love Skateshop and online at www.myticket.my. For more info, head to www.goodvibesfestival.com.

Australia’s first Hot Chocolate festival

The Yarra Valley is now hosting Australia’s first Hot Chocolate Festival to help warm up winter visitors to one of the country’s premier foodie regions.

Staged at the new Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery, Australia’s inaugural celebration of love for chocolate will be marked with 31 decadent hot chocolate creations over 31 days in August.

Devised by the Chocolaterie’s world-class European chocolatiers and local barista, seven new ‘limited edition’ hot chocolate flavours will be introduced each week of the Festival.

The menu of warming concoctions include Nutty Salted Caramel, Tiramisu, Chilli Bomb, Mint Madness, Cherry Delight, Roasted Macadamia, Berry Explosion and many more that draw on local Yarra Valley produce, supplies from their kitchen garden and of course, the very best Belgian couverture chocolate. All will be served with a choice of milk, dark or white chocolate pastilles, a shot of couverture chocolate and hand crafted giant marshmallow.

Viper Challenge

PRESS RELEASE

Celebrities To Add More Excitement To Asia's Biggest Ever Obstacle Challenge

Organizers invite all to attend the Viper Challenge as TV host Jonathan Putra and comedians Kavin Jay and Papi Zak promise to bring entertainment, motivation and comedic relief.

Sepang, August 2: Now just two weeks away, the excitement is heating up for Asia's biggest ever fitness challenge as organisers of the Viper Challenge on 17 & 18 August at Sepang International Circuit announce the participation of three hot local entertainment personalities.

Former Channel [V] VJ and current NTV7 TV host Jonathan Putra, along with top Kuala Lumpur funny men Kavin Jay and Papi Zak are set to join the excitement on 17 August as they not only entertain and keep participant energy levels up, but also try their hand at the obstacle course.

The 20km man-made obstacle course meanders around the F1 circuit and presents 20 different obstacles that will require teamwork and test the physical and mental limits of participants - certainly no easy feat for these celebrities!

The multi-talented Jonathan Putra is also an actor and a model and has been a regular feature in the regional and local entertainment scene. The dashing UK born celebrity has always played close attention to his fitness but can he take on his most grueling fitness challenge yet in the Viper Challenge?

Affectionately known as the grumpiest comedian in Malaysia, Kavin Jay performs regularly alongside established international comedians on the local and Singapore comedy circuit. Admittedly not in the best physical shape, but determined to give it his all, Kavin is attempting to condition himself for the Viper Challenge, and it will be interesting to see how this ‘grumpy joke-telling machine’ experiences being inside the course.

Egypt-born Papi Zak brings a no-holds barred attitude to his comedy and enjoyed great success alongside some of Malaysia’s biggest comedians, Harith Iskander, Jit Murad and Douglas Lim, in Actor’s Studio’s 2007 hit ‘Eh, Got Free Ticket Ah?’ before his own headlining performance ‘I am Papi!’ in 2009. As one of the ‘biggest’ stand-up comedians in Malaysia, the Viper Challenge is sure to be a truly entertaining test of Papi’s character.

All three celebrities will be on-ground during the Viper Challenge on Saturday as they entertain, motivate and get both themselves and other participants pumped up for the physical tests of their lives.

With so much excitement happening inside the Viper Challenge arena, this historic Asian sporting event is set to be a hugely memorable hit with all those who attend.

An exciting participant mix from Malaysia and around Asia has already signed up for the thrilling event.

This truly international and landmark Malaysian sporting event is supported by Malaysia Major Events, a division of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

Exhaustive information on the Viper Challenge may be found on www.viperchallenge.com. Those interested to participate as volunteers are also encouraged to apply via the website.

Buka Puasa at Passage Thru India

WOMEN:girls calling for stories

Each woman has a story to tell, hear the soul and spirit of her words. WOMEN:girls; a platform aimed at inspiring and empowering Malaysian women, is calling for submissions of stories for Ikal Mayang 2014 which will be developed into a two minute short film. This initiative is to raise the share of women’s voice by telling women’s stories.

The set theme “Unspoken Truths: Biar Pecah Di Perut, Jangan Pecah Di Mulut” explores taboo issues which often happen in our lives, though that cat is never let out of the bag. It is giving Malaysian women a voice to do so. Women or girls, from the ages of 14 and above may send in their submissions within the month of August (1st of August to the 31st of August 2013).
