Happenings in 2009

The Obama Inaugural Celebration

HBO is televising The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial , the Opening Celebration for the 56th United States Presidential Inaugural, on Tuesday, 20 January 2009 at 7pm. The Opening Celebration will be a marquis event attended by both President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden.

Featuring some of the biggest acts in the world of entertainment, some of the performers scheduled for the event include Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Bono, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Renee Fleming, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Heather Headley, Bettye LaVette, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, John Mellencamp, Usher Raymond IV, Pete Seeger, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, will.i.am and Stevie Wonder. Among those reading historical passages will be Jack Black, Steve Carell, Rosario Dawson, Jamie Foxx, Tom Hanks, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah, Laura Linney and Denzel Washington.

And just for this telecast (and the encore), all Astro subscribers will be able to tune-in to the channel (HBO Ch 411) and watch the show. All, i.e. even non-Movie subscribers can access the channel. This is so that everyone can join in the celebrations.

Mogwai Live in Malaysia

Internationally acclaimed instrumental band Mogwai, will be performing Live here in Malaysia on 21 January 2009. On tour for their sixth and latest album, The Hawk is Howling - the band returns to its roots, working again with producer Andy Miller for the first time in a decade. As is expected from the 13-year old band's critically acclaimed brand of instrumental post-rock, The Hawk is Howling is a completely instrumental album - where the only 'conversation' comes from the often intense, sometimes ethereal, but always majestic play of different instruments.

She draws her inspiration from the wealth of Jazz legends such as; Ella Fitzgerald, Rachelle Farrelle, Jill Scott and Erykah Badu. Noryn is renowned for her mix of the jazz classics with her own addition of a weightless and timeless voice. Rihanna Live in KL

The good-girl-gone-bad and Grammy award winner, Rihanna, is coming to Malaysia for the first time! Her debut concert, Rihanna Live in KL 2009 is scheduled for 13 February, 2009, Friday, 8.30 pm at Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil. Rihanna Live in KL 2009 is part of ‘The Good Girl Gone Bad Tour’, the second world concert tour by the Barbadian singer to support her album ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’.

Peter Cetera at Genting
