Blonde Idol

As the next step to our Blonde idol event which barBlonde has been running from February, Blonde idol winners are invited back to do a 45-minute showcase. On Tuesday 7th September, it's Melissa Indot's turn. Melissa will perform at 10pm on Tuesday 7th September at barBlonde, Asian Heritage Row. She will be backed by Carpe Diem. This will be followed by the fun part of the night, the open-mic session, where you get to sing LIVE with the band! Audience will put up score cards to decide who will be the next Blonde iDOL. Jerome Kugan, who came back from a holiday in Jakarta, found himself smitten by the literary scene that could have been Malaysia’s, if only we had the hungry readership and feeding publishers. Speaking of which, allow us to offer you this delectable morsel. Leading Indonesian essayist, poet and writer Goenawan Mohamad has generously given a mystical tale of his for our humble little website. With this, we would like to launch Kakiseni Voices. Send in your poems and short stories; our favourite each month will be published on Kakiseni. The winner will receive fame and glory and a book prize. At the polls, 17% of you would rather be an artist on a tropical island (making post cards?), while 10% chose the countryside and 9% the city. Merely 5% recognised the grimy inspiration to be had in a warzone, and another five are willing to do time at Kamunting in order to find their muse. Only one poor sod chose the office. For what it is worth, Wallace Stevens, one of the most celebrated American poet of the 20th Century, was also an insurance executive with a boring office job. How much more reality can you get? The Scorpions’s one-night gig at Stadium Merdeka on Sept 13 is part of its South-East Asian tour, which also includes Bangkok, Jakarta and Medan. The veteran German band led by pocket-bomb vocalist Klaus Meine was last in Kuala Lumpur in 2001. These old boys are coming back to promote their latest album Unbreakable (released by BMG Malaysia). Guitarists Matthias Jabs and Rudolf Schenker, drummer James Kottak and new bassist Pawel Maciwoda complete the line-up. The outdoor event, presented by Star Planet Sdn Bhd, also sees the much sought-after Search in performance. These local rock icons, led by frontman Amy, have had a very good year so far. They conquered Stadium Merdeka in February with 27,000 fans attending their concert. There has also been huge support for their Planet Hollywood gigs. Whenever you're in Penang and want to feast on great mamak food (yes the sweaty hairy mamaks in Penang ROCK!!!) The key to good Nasi Kandar in Penang lies in knowing the exact time to locate the Mamak culprit serving it.... ie at the time of your craving or needs... it's no good if you have the craving and only find low budget stuff... hehehe..
