The showcases will be a rare treat for music lovers to witness the MPO’s interpretation of Armstrong’s evergreen hits, and will stretch the Orchestra’s versatility to new heights.
Slated under the Pops series, the concerts will be conducted by Grammy Award winner/composer/arranger Jeff Tyzik. The MPO will collaborate with trumpet virtuoso Byron Stripling and drummer Robert Breithaupt. All the aforementioned artists have collaborated with prominent jazz orchestras in the USA and will definitely enthrall the audience with their brilliant musicianship.
Walk down the memory lane when the MPO brings you an absolutely thrilling programme of jazz standards such as The Red Arrow, Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans? (written in 1947 for a musical drama starring the late Billie Holiday), I Want A Little Girl, Please Don’t Talk About Me, St Louis Blues (the first jazz song to have successfully crossed over into the pop genre and inspired the foxtrot dance), Sweet Georgia Brown, Minnie the Moocher, Honeysuckle Rose (a dance number written by Fats Waller in 1929), Ain’t Misbehavin’, some exciting medleys and Armstrong’s signature hit, What A Wonderful World.
Join the MPO in a celebration of all that jazz; from blues to swing, ragtime to big band, only at DFP!
