Press Release Heineken Music Thirst Searches The Globe To Find The Worlds Best DJ Talent Kuala Lumpur, 4 February 2005: Heineken Music Thirst is back, but this time it is an unparalleled global DJ competition. Launching in Indonesia in April 2005, Thirst will push the boundaries of dance music with never before seen unique live sets and collaborations from some of the world’s biggest names in dance music, while continuing the Global search for fresh DJ talent. Thirst will travel to 25 cities, resulting in four regional heats and culminating in the first ever Global final in January 2006. Thirst Malaysia begins a new year with the search for the next big DJ beginning 15 February to 21 March 2005. During this period, interested contestants are encouraged to send in their demo CD’s for shortlisting. All entrants are encouraged to add to the conventional concept of DJ’ing with new and unique elements. The four categories for performances are 1) DJ only, 2) Technology based (i.e. Decks and FX, VJing), 3) Live Collaboration (i.e. live vocals, live band, live MC, live instruments added to DJ performance) and 4) DJ Collaboration (i.e. 2 DJ’s playing back to back). Entrants must be aged 21 years and above, non-Muslims and residents of Malaysia only. All submissions made by contestants must only be in CD format and the closing date for the entries is 12noon on 21 March 2005. Six shortlisted entries will be selected by 1 April 2005. These entrants must be available to perform their 30-minutes track at Thirst Malaysia Semifinal in Zouk, KL on Saturday, 16 April 2005. The remaining top two finalists will then have a final showdown at the Thirst Malaysia event, which will be held on 30 April 2005 at the Grand Stand, Sepang F1 Circuit. The overall winner will take home with him/her the prize money of RM5, 000 and will represent Malaysia at the regional Thirst Asia Semi-final. For the 2nd year in a row, Malaysia has been given the chance to host one of the 3 regional Thirst Asia Semi-finals. The Malaysian leg of the event is scheduled to take place on 14 May 2005 at Zouk, KL. Whilst the Malaysian Thirst winner will compete at a location away from home, the Malaysian leg of the regional Thirst Asia Semi-final will see some of the best up-and-coming DJ talents compete for a chance to represent their country at the Thirst Asia Final on 21 May 2005 in Bangkok, Thailand. Those interested in taking part in the Thirst competition can find the DJ entry kits at selected DJ academies and music stores e.g. Excessive Records around the Klang Valley. Those living outside the Klang Valley or has access to the Internet can download the entry kit from www.heineken.com/malaysia. Since it’s beginning in 2002, over 250, 000 clubbers have attended a Thirst event and over 7,000 aspiring DJs have entered the competition that has helped further the careers of over 50 DJs. Thirst gives local talented DJs the once in a lifetime opportunity to play alongside internationally renowned DJs, maximising their exposure and status. Thirst has already unearthed some incredible talent. Thirst 2003 finalist, Miss Motif toured the globe with Thirst last year and is now pursuing a career with her band Scent, whose single ‘Up and Down’ reached a top 20 position in the UK charts. DJ Small is another Thirst success story, winning Thirst 2003 in Singapore. He has gone on to secure residencies at the top clubs in Singapore, establishing himself as one of the leading DJs in South East Asia.
