Melanie will be performing a half-hour acoustic set of her new tracks including the UK Top 10 singles ‘Next Best Superstar’ and ‘Better Alone’. The spring release of ‘Beautiful Intentions’ in the UK saw the album enter the charts in the Top 25. The album had been nine months in the making and critics were pleased with the results, hailing Melanie for her “emotionally honest” work. One reviewer said, “She’s certainly not lost any of that girl power!” Melanie C, though she wasn’t dubbed Indie Spice by the British music press until after the Spice Girls’ second album, had always made it clear that she preferred Blur to Take That. With her debut ‘Northern Star’ (released on Virgin Records in 2000) and her follow-up ‘Reason’ (2003), Melanie broke from her Sporty Spice persona to prove herself as a legitimate musician with two surprisingly diverse records. Melanie showed she had a strong voice, a good sense of melody, and the personality to deliver everything from urban balladry to Brit pop to post-modern rock to neo-industrial punk to techno-influenced dance and electronica. With album sales close to three million copies today, Melanie C’s focus on music over mannerisms proves she has brains, and that’s real girl power.
