When Odie is kidnapped by a mean dog trainer, however, Garfield feels responsible, so he gets off his favorite spot and gets into action to rescue his fellow pet... ALIEN vs PREDATOR (FOX) Local Release: 26th August 2004 Directed by: Paul W.S. Anderson Screenplay by: Paul W.S., Shane Salerno Starring: Sanaa Lathan, Lance Henriksen, Raoul Bova, Ewen Bremner Genre: Action, Eye Candy, Horror, Science Fiction, Sequel, Thriller Plot outline: Set in the early 21st century (ie, now), this movie follows a team of drillers, scientists and archaeologists led by a billionaire industrialist (Henriksen) who travel to Antarctica to investigate ancient pyramid ruins buried deep beneath the ice which predate those in Egypt and Mexico, suggesting they were once the home of a great empire that ruled over the Earth first. When they finally reach one of the pyramids, however, they discover human skeletons and fossilized remains of alien creatures that appear to hug faces and burst out of chests (wink wink), along with evidence that such aliens may still be alive somewhere in the ruins. The danger below them is frightening, but what the scientists also don't know is that something as dangerous lurks above them, happy to have had someone uncover the Aliens: a group of five teenage Predators, following a tradition wherein young Predators come to Earth every thousand years to go through their hunting rituals to reach manhood (or die horribly). The humans on the scene have to just hope they don't join them... A CINDERELLA STORY (FOX) Local Release: 26th August 2004 Directed by: Mark Rosman Screenplay by: Leigh Dunlap Starring: Hilary Duff, Chad Michael Murray, Jennifer Coolidge, Julie Gonzalo, Regina King Genre: Kids, Teen, Family Plot outline: Set at a high school in the San Fernando Valley, this is the story of a "dorky" girl, Sam Martin (Duff), who lives with her stepmother (Coolidge) and stepsisters, after her father dies, and his diner is taken over by his new wife, who used to be a waitress there (and who makes Sam do all the hard work there). Sam has few friends at her high school, where the top of the social ladder is Shelby Cummings (Gonzalo), a girl who is wealthy, spoiled and shallow. Sam's attitude and look changes quickly overnight, however, when her cel phone is found by a mysterious guy (Murray), with whom she soon starts corresponding via notes and e-mails, with the promise looming soon that she will finally get to meet him at the big Halloween school dance. Will Sam be able to overcome the likely obstacles posed by both her step-family and her "dork" status in school? A self-made tycoon, Wayne is seemingly invincible. But all illusions are shattered when he is kidnapped in broad daylight from their peaceful Pittsburgh estate. Under the microscope of probing FBI investigation and her own painstaking introspection, Eileen too is a victim. Straight arrow Jane is supposed to deliver a speech so that she can get an overseas scholarship (possibly a lead-in to a sequel?), while "punk rocker" Roxy wants to sneak into a music video recording (by a band played by Simple Plan; Jack Osbourne plays their manager) so that she can give a record label person her demo tape. Things go wrong, however, when Jane's dayplanner somehow becomes implicated in a shady black market transaction, and she is suspected of kidnapping the pet dog of a powerful senator (Andrea Martin). Soon, both the police and the school's truant officer are on the girls' trail(s). MAN ON FIRE (FOX) Local Release: 9th September 2004 Directed by: Tony Scott Written by: Brian Helgeland (Based on the novel by A.J.Quinnell) Starring: Denzel Washington, Dakota Fanning, Christopher Walken. Genre: Action, Based on a Book, Crime, Remake, Thriller Plot outline: This gripping and suspenseful action film in the vein of Ransom, directed by Tony Scott (Enemy of the State, Spy Game), stars Denzel Washington as an ex-soldier living out his life in Mexico who reluctantly agrees to protect a child whose parents feel threatened by a recent wave of kidnappings. When the child is abducted and presumed killed while under his watch, Washington’s fiery rage is unleashed on those he believes to be responsible. Genre: Based on a Book, Historical, Horror, Sequel, Supernatural Plot outline: In Exorcist: The Beginning, acclaimed director Paul Schrader brings to the screen the terrifying prequel to 1973’s landmark supernatural thriller The Exorcist. The place is Africa, the time is post World War II, and a young Father Merrin (Stellen Skargard) encounters the Devil for the first time in what will ultimately lead to the battle between Good and Evil portrayed in the original film. DE-LOVELY (FOX) Local Release: 7th October 2004 Directed by: Irwin Winkler Screenplay by: Jay Cocks Starring: Kevin Kline, Ashley Judd, Jonathan Pryce, Keith Allen, Angie Hill, Natalie Cole, Allan Corduner, Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, Mick Hucknall, Diana Krall, Robbie Williams Genre: Biography, Comedy, Gay, Historical. Musical, Romance Plot outline: Early 20th century American composer Cole Porter (Kline) looks back on his life as if it was all one big stage production with singing and dancing, and his wife, Linda Lee Porter (Judd), was his costar, in the unlikely story of a gay man who nonetheless married and fell in love with a woman. TAXI (FOX) Local Release: 21st October 2004 Directed by: Tim Story Written by: Jim Kouf ,Thomas Lennon Starring: Queen Latifah, Jimmy Fallon, Ann-Margret, Jennifer Esposito, Gisele Bundchen, Ana Cristina de Oliceira, Christian Kane, Henry Simmons. Genre: Action, Comedy, Crime, Remake Plot outline: This is the story of a single mother and pizza deliverer, Belle (Latifah), who decides to use her record for making the speedy deliveries to another use, becoming a cabbie. As she quickly becomes famous for racing through the city at speeds upwards of 135 mph (including school zones), a young eager cop (Fallon) who lacks Belle's driving abilities convinces her to help him catch a gang of beautiful female bank robbers (led by a Brazilian diva played by Bundchen) using her amazing driving abilities. HOUSE OF WAX (WB) Local Release: 18th November 2004 Directed by: Jaume Collet-Serra Starring: Chad Michael Murray, Elisha Cuthbert Genre: Horror Plot outline: Remake of the 1953 classic horror film 'House of Wax 3-D', which starred Vincent Price and was directed by Andre de Toth. The movie centered on a mad professor who used human bodies covered with wax in his wax museum. The new version will depart from the original but will retain the gruesome "human bodies in wax" element and focus on a group of teens who fall prey to demented killers who have a penchant for encasing their victims in wax. POLAR EXPRESS (WB) Local Release: 2nd December 2004 Directed by: Robert Zemeckis Written by: Robert Zemeckis & William Broyles, Jr. (Based on the illustrated book by Chris Van Allsburg) Starring: Tom Hanks Genre: Animated, Based on a Book, Eye Candy, Fantasy, Holidays, Kids Plot outline: Believing in Santa Claus isn't easy when all of your friends and family insist he's just make-believe. A boy's faith is rewarded one Christmas Eve when he's awakened by a steam train that pulls up in front of his house and takes him and other children to the North Pole to meet Santa. (Tom Hanks plays the train's conductor). OCEAN’S 12 (WB) Local Release: 9th December 2004 Directed by: Steven Soderbergh Written by: Ted Griffin, George Nolfi Starring: George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Vincent Cassel, Andy Garcia, Bernie Mac Genre: Action, Comedy, Crime, Eye Candy, Romance, Sequel, Thriller Plot outline: Danny Ocean (Clooney), reignited flame Tess (Roberts) and the rest of a band of thieves and con men (some returning and some new), team up for another three huge heists, but this time they're in three different locations (Rome, Paris and Amsterdam) (perhaps handled by three groups of four thieves each?). Meanwhile, casino owner Terry Benedict (Garcia), whom Ocean and crew ripped off in Las Vegas, is hot on their tail, looking for revenge... MR. & MRS. SMITH (FOX) Local Release: 16th December 2004 Directed by: Doug Liman Written by: Simon Kinberg Starring: Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie Genre: Action-adventure Plot outline: Follows a bored couple in a failing marriage who are also covert assassins hired to kill each other. FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX (FOX) Local Release: 13th January 2005 Directed by: John Moore Written by: John Moore, Ron Hutchinson, Edward Burns Starring: Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson, Miranda Otto, Giovanni Ribisi, Tony Curran, Jared Padalecki, Jacob Vargas. Genre: Action, Based on a Book, Drama, Eye Candy, Remake Plot outline: When a C-119 cargo plane full of oil workers crashes in Mongolia's Gobi Desert during a sandstorm, the survivors attempt to build a new plane from the parts they find in the wreckage to escape. The plane was piloted by Captain Frank Towns, an employee of oil company Geodel, whose job it is to go to remote oil rigs and shut them down when their productivity has decreased. Having accomplished his job with one such rig, his plane crashes with all of the employees aboard on the way back to Beijing. Can they survive the heat, the sand, and each other long enough to get it airborne? CONSTANTINE (WB) Local Release: 10th February 2005 Directed by: Francis Lawrence Written by: Frank A. Cappello, Mark Bombark, Kevin Brodbin (Based on the comic book by Alan Moore ) Starring: Keanu Reeves Genre: Action, Based on a Book, Horror, Supernatural, Thriller Plot outline: Based on the DC Comic, “Hellblazer”, Constantine tells the story of renegade occultist, John Constantine (Keanu Reeves), who has literally been to hell and back. John teams up with skeptical policewoman Katelin Dodson to solve the mysterious suicide of her twin sister. Their investigation takes them through the world of demons and angels that exists just beneath the landscape of contemporary Los Angeles.
