The annual Malaysian festival of colour is back, once again combining and celebrating the best of Malaysia- its colourful culture and cuisine. Locals and visitors alike will be amazed at the spectacle and sparkle on display. It’s a month long, nationwide celebration, including parades, performances, arts and crafts and, of course, an abundance of food. Citrarasa Malaysia launches at KL’s Dataran Merdeka on the eighth, setting off a series of food fiestas held all around the country. Catch Citrarasa Melaka on Mar 13–15 at Bandar Hilir, Melaka, the Penang International Food Festival at Batu Feringgi beach Mar 13–21, the ‘Nasi Seratus’ Festival at Kota Bharu, Kelantan on Mar 20–22, or swing by the Kuching Waterfront at Sarawak on Mar 27–29 for Citrarasa Sarawak. From Mar 27–April 5 there’ll be a Food Trail at the Lake Gardens in Kuala Lumpur.

Happenings in 2009

The Obama Inaugural Celebration

HBO is televising The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial , the Opening Celebration for the 56th United States Presidential Inaugural, on Tuesday, 20 January 2009 at 7pm. The Opening Celebration will be a marquis event attended by both President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden.

Featuring some of the biggest acts in the world of entertainment, some of the performers scheduled for the event include Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Bono, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Renee Fleming, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Heather Headley, Bettye LaVette, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, John Mellencamp, Usher Raymond IV, Pete Seeger, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, will.i.am and Stevie Wonder. Among those reading historical passages will be Jack Black, Steve Carell, Rosario Dawson, Jamie Foxx, Tom Hanks, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah, Laura Linney and Denzel Washington.

And just for this telecast (and the encore), all Astro subscribers will be able to tune-in to the channel (HBO Ch 411) and watch the show. All, i.e. even non-Movie subscribers can access the channel. This is so that everyone can join in the celebrations.

Mogwai Live in Malaysia

Internationally acclaimed instrumental band Mogwai, will be performing Live here in Malaysia on 21 January 2009. On tour for their sixth and latest album, The Hawk is Howling - the band returns to its roots, working again with producer Andy Miller for the first time in a decade. As is expected from the 13-year old band's critically acclaimed brand of instrumental post-rock, The Hawk is Howling is a completely instrumental album - where the only 'conversation' comes from the often intense, sometimes ethereal, but always majestic play of different instruments.

Rihanna Live in KL

The good-girl-gone-bad and Grammy award winner, Rihanna, is coming to Malaysia for the first time! Her debut concert, Rihanna Live in KL 2009 is scheduled for 13 February, 2009, Friday, 8.30 pm at Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil. Rihanna Live in KL 2009 is part of ‘The Good Girl Gone Bad Tour’, the second world concert tour by the Barbadian singer to support her album ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’.

2008 MTV Asia Awards

The 2008 MTV Asia Awards will be held at the Arena of Stars on 2 August 2008 and will be hosted by Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars. The whole of Asia will be buzzing as the show will be broadcasted to over 291 million homes across the region, and promoted on MTV Asia's website. Portions of the programming will be carried on MTV channels worldwide, reaching more than a billion viewers across 162 countries.

Be prepared to be knocked out by the spanking new refreshing format of the Awards. With live music at the centre stage, expect nothing but a whole night of exciting performances. The highlight is on pure music entertainment with five sets of live acts in the evening, each performing sets of two to four songs.
