Sarawak Rainforest World Music Festival 2009 Review

The international crowd descended onto the fields of the Sarawak Cultural Village in Santubong, an annual affair for most revellers and this year, any evidence of the 12th annual Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) being an ageing and declining relic event was nowhere to be seen. 21,000 people graced the workshops, festival concerts and everything else that it has to offer in its glory. Despite the threats of the economic crisis, the spread of the AH1N1 virus, the muddy grounds caused by the sudden rain on the first night and the higher cost of attending due to opportunistic service providers outside the control of the organisers, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), it did not stop... SPCA Sunday Special - Pulau Ketam Dogs

We are happy to update you on the progress of the 23 dogs we have rescued from Pulau Selat Kering, as well as the 4 neutered strays from Pulau Ketam and two puppies found at the orang asli settlement. Read on to meet the 28 lovely island dogs, who are in good health and slowly beginning to trust again. While many of them are still timid around people, dedicated volunteers like Roli and Marianne continue to spend time socializing them, giving them the attention and love that they need!

These amazing dogs are up for immediate adoption. Your ongoing support enables us to ;

* continue our rescue & relief work at Pulau Selat Kering and the surrounding islands, there appears to be another 8-10 dogs still on the islands

* Feed, shelter, care for and provide medical treatment for the rescued dogs, as well as the neutered strays from Pulau Ketam

* Offer free neutering for pets and community animals in Pulau Ketam, to prevent the population from growing further. During our first Kempen Kembiri supported by the Dept of Vet Services and UPM, 23 dogs and 7 cats were neutered for free, and our Klinik Kembiri team stayed for 3 days to provide post-op monitoring and care

* Carry out our education work through street teams in PulauKetam, highlighting the importance of neutering and this month dog bite prevention. Over 30 volunteers went door-to-door at our last Kempen Kembiri, and managed to secure registrations of 24 more animals - 12 cats and 12 dogs - for the Kempen Kembiri this month!

Please do drop by to meet these lovely islanders any day from 9am - 4pm at the SPCA Animal Shelter in Ampang Jaya. We would appreciate any donations of dog kibbles, canned food and dog treats for these dogs, as well as old towels, anti-bacterial detergents and newspaper.

Online Pub – 20 Years On And Still Going Strong

images by Veronica Ng
In the fickle world of clubbing and pubbing, 2 years is the norm before the owners have to renovate and update the outlet to remain competitive. One pub that has done exactly the opposite and remained the same for the last 20 years is Online Pub in Damansara Kim.

Jam With Lewis Pragasam

You rock the Palette with drumming legend Lewis Pragasam!

On Friday, July 10th, you will have the opportunity to jam with drumming legend Lewis Pragasam. We invite you to drum along as Rhythmatix is going to rock the night...

The event will start at 9:00pm and is absolutely free.

You will be part of an event whereby we will synchronize our individual Rhythms to one thunderous tune that will bring the house down. As our guests, you will be part of the event, not just a spectator. We cordially invite you to join us as we explore the power of the Djembes, traditional drums from Africa.

Lewis Pragasam has garnered international and critical acclaim as one of Asia’s leading drum/percussion exponents and an innovator of new trends in World Music. Lewis is the founder and moving spirit of the pioneering ASIABEAT project, whose recordings and performances are now legendary in the merging of Asian and Western music styles, which started in 1979. He and his partner Shahrin Hamid, an Australian graduate of classical music, will get the crowd moving with a drum workshop at Palate Palette.

Seats are limited; guests are advised to reserve their space.
