Headlining international dance act Groove Armada Soundsystem is one of the most exciting British dance acts of recent years. They gave the dance scene some of its biggest hits, including anthems like “I See You Baby” and “Superstylin’”. Groove Armada have come a long way since then. The group, made out of Andy Cato and Tom Findlay, recently completed a remix track for Madonna and has been busy in the studio working on their new album. Malaysian fans will receive a sneak preview of some of the tracks from their upcoming new album. Groove Armada Soundsystem are definitely going to give KL-ites a night to remember.
Headlining international rock band Futon have been described in the press as “…dirty punk underwear under electro trousers: a world class act” and “...like ice cream: nice”. This Bangkok based band is made out of an eclectic assortment of characters. There is Momoko the Japanese sword fighting champion, the glamorous and gorgeous Thai lead singer Gene, Bee the Japanese teenage boy band member turned guitarist, David the UK producer who’s worked with All Saints and The Cardigans, Simon the ex-drummer for Suede and Oh, bass player and well known Thai actress. Together, Futon is a band that defies definition and confronts the South East Asian pop stereotype with reckless abandon.
Headlining local act is H.U.M.P. (HazeUniversityMusiqPeople). Described as big room electronic music at its finest, a stellar collective of musicians led by founder Haze (H.U.M.) will come together on stage at Heineken Thirst Studio. The line-up of artistes include Haze (H.U.M.) – Musical Director/Synth/Vocals, DJ Gabriel (UDG) – Decks/Effects, Transient Vortex – Computers/Synths/Vocals, B4C – Computers/Synths/Vocals, Jamie Wilson - Guitars, Steve Thornton - Percussion and Altered Image - Visuals.
Heineken Thirst Studio 06 Winner CosmicSpaceMunkys also promise to put on a performance to remember. As part of the grand prize for winning Heineken Thirst Studio, CosmicSpaceMunkys flew to UK recently to work with renowned international producer Paul Epworth. Epworth has worked with acts like Bloc Party, Goldfrapp and Maximo Park to name a few. Together, Epworth and CosmicSpaceMunkys created some amazing new tracks, set to debut at Heineken Thirst Studio on September 16.

Speed Zone Tour 2006
The much looked forward to Speed Zone Tour 2006 is finally here! Partygoers can now look forward to some excellent music in an amazing setting, as the event will be held at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) Grandstand Tower – the first time ever an event is being held within the grounds of a Grand Prix circuit during race season. Held to celebrate the thrill of the 2006 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, Speed Zone is organised proudly by Protein Events, in conjunction with SIC.
The heat is set to burn come September 9, 2006 at the grounds of the circuit, as five international DJ’s spin off the event of the season. Our very own DJ Joey G will get the party started, and up and coming German trance duo Blank & Jones take over soon after. Gabriel & Dresden, who recently released a remix of Gustavo Santalaoralla's "Wings", the theme song of Brokeback Mountain, take the deck next. Both duos are coming to our shores for the very first time, while Gabriel & Dresden, regarded now as the haute couture of club cultures, are making an exclusive pit stop at Speed Zone as part of their World Tour to promote their new self-titled album. Italian-born Misstress Barbara is up immediately after, set to display her hard edge techno style of spinning right till the end of the party.
The organiser, Protein Events, has previously brought to the local club scene international names like ATB, DJ Montana, DJ Brent Burns and DJ Tall Paul. This season’s event is yet another opportunity to bring the best of the club culture in celebration of motorsports in Malaysia.
2,000 clubbers will party for free at the Speed Zone Tour 2006 once registered on http://www.speedzonetour.com/ beginning 7 August 2006. Alternatively, tickets can be purchased at the door for RM20, which includes one standard drink. The parties are open to partygoers 18 and above only, and all tickets collections and purchases are dependant on display of a valid photo ID.
The Speed Zone Tour 2006 is the official Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix party, and as such is providing as many Malaysians as possible the opportunity to experience the fever of Speed Zone – befitting its status as the ONLY Grand Prix party of the season.

WWF Malaysia’s Art for Nature 2006
Feed Me! An Exploration of Appetites.
Food is one of the most important aspects of Malaysian life. Whether we eat in stalls, hotels, at home or in coffee shops, food brings people together and keeps them together. Similarly, the act of feeding and hosting others reveal the character of our affections and ambitions.
This year’s Art for Nature, Feed Me! An Exploration of Appetites, is an exploration of physical, emotional and even spiritual hungers, and our need to assuage them. On a deeper level the theme of this exhibition forces us to recall how uncontrolled appetites have led to tremendous destruction of natural resources and the oppression of peoples. Under the guise of development and modernisation, we have inflicted irreversible ecological damage to the forests, oceans and hills that surround and support us. Why has our hunger been allowed to run unchecked?
A total of 31 artists will be participating in Art for Nature 2006. Expect to see works by established artists like Abdul Multhalib Musa, Ahmad Zakii Anwar, Bayu Utomo Radjikin, Jalaini Abu Hassan, Yusof Majid and many others.
Proceeds from the sale of artworks will be channelled towards WWF-Malaysia’s efforts to safeguard Malaysia abundant and unique natural heritage.
The event will be held at Rimbun Dahan, the home of Angela and Hijjas Kasturi, Kilometer 27, Jalan Kuang, 48050 Kuang and is open to public from September 10th until September 24th 2006, from 10am to 5pm. There will be an art talk on September 17th at Rimbun Dahan starting at 3pm. Seats to the art talk are limited. Please RSVP to confirm your participation.
