This Bangkok based band is made out of an eclectic assortment of characters. There is Momoko the Japanese sword fighting champion, the glamorous and gorgeous Thai lead singer Gene, Bee the Japanese teenage boy band member turned guitarist, David the UK producer who’s worked with All Saints and The Cardigans, Simon the ex-drummer for Suede and Oh, bass player and well known Thai actress. Together, Futon is a band that defies definition and confronts the South East Asian pop stereotype with reckless abandon. Headlining local act is H.U.M.P. (HazeUniversityMusiqPeople). Described as big room electronic music at its finest, a stellar collective of musicians led by founder Haze (H.U.M.) will come together on stage at Heineken Thirst Studio. WWF Malaysia’s Art for Nature 2006

Feed Me! An Exploration of Appetites. Food is one of the most important aspects of Malaysian life. Whether we eat in stalls, hotels, at home or in coffee shops, food brings people together and keeps them together. Similarly, the act of feeding and hosting others reveal the character of our affections and ambitions. This year’s Art for Nature, Feed Me! An Exploration of Appetites, is an exploration of physical, emotional and even spiritual hungers, and our need to assuage them. On a deeper level the theme of this exhibition forces us to recall how uncontrolled appetites have led to tremendous destruction of natural resources and the oppression of peoples. Under the guise of development and modernisation, we have inflicted irreversible ecological damage to the forests, oceans and hills that surround and support us. Why has our hunger been allowed to run unchecked? A total of 31 artists will be participating in Art for Nature 2006. Expect to see works by established artists like Abdul Multhalib Musa, Ahmad Zakii Anwar, Bayu Utomo Radjikin, Jalaini Abu Hassan, Yusof Majid and many others. Proceeds from the sale of artworks will be channelled towards WWF-Malaysia’s efforts to safeguard Malaysia abundant and unique natural heritage. The event will be held at Rimbun Dahan, the home of Angela and Hijjas Kasturi, Kilometer 27, Jalan Kuang, 48050 Kuang and is open to public from September 10th until September 24th 2006, from 10am to 5pm. There will be an art talk on September 17th at Rimbun Dahan starting at 3pm. Seats to the art talk are limited. Please RSVP to confirm your participation. Rock4Hope Charity Concert

Rock4Hope is a charity concert organized to raise funds for the surgery of 20-year-old 2005 Dream Malaysia Awards winner, Yvonne Foong, to remove a tumor in the brain. The Mass Communication student of Life College was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis Type 2, a rare and incurable genetic disorder which causes tumors to grow in her brain, spine and along peripheral nerves. Three major surgeries have passed since the diagnosis four years ago, but many tumors in Yvonne's body still needs to be removed. The tumors damage random nerves as they grow. Yvonne, who spends her time studying and writing freelance articles for local dailies, is currently in need of funds to remove a brain tumor called Acoustic Neuroma that had made her deaf in both ears. The avid classical singer and pianist she once was, is now living in a world of silence. You can make a difference to the life of this plucky young adult, by giving her the hope of hearing again. Besides removing the tumor, the amount raised will be used to purchase an Auditory Brainstem Implant, the only hearing aid in the world suitable for her condition due to the adsence of hearing nerves to the brain.
