The air in the beautiful resort island of Penang will be filled with enchanting melodies originating from various parts of the world this July, as the world-renowned musicians Malaysia as well as from overseas, converge in harmonic fusion at the “World Music Festival 2007 – Penang”.
The festival spans over for three consecutive days, starting from 20 to 22 July. It is organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia jointly with Tourism Malaysia, Penang Tourism Action Council and Sarawak Tourism Board. This is the first of such grand scale festival ever held in Penang and is one of Visit Malaysia Year 2007 main events.
Audiences will enjoy enthralling shows from 14 bands performing music from cultural or community-inspired roots. Each band – 11 international bands and three Malaysian ones, while vastly different from the next one, will showcase a very strong ethnic edge and identity with traditional instruments being a focal point. Overall, there will be almost 100 musicians here for the festival.
The venue that has been selected to host this event is the newly-launched Quarry Garden, situated just left of the entrance to the famous Botanical Garden, amidst the lush trees and tropical foliage surrounding the whole area.
The combination of the powerful music and the magic allure of the venue will definitely be the web-spinners for the “World Music Festival 2007 – Penang”.
