WWF Malaysia’s Art for Nature 2006

Feed Me! An Exploration of Appetites. Food is one of the most important aspects of Malaysian life. Whether we eat in stalls, hotels, at home or in coffee shops, food brings people together and keeps them together. Similarly, the act of feeding and hosting others reveal the character of our affections and ambitions. This year’s Art for Nature, Feed Me! An Exploration of Appetites, is an exploration of physical, emotional and even spiritual hungers, and our need to assuage them. On a deeper level the theme of this exhibition forces us to recall how uncontrolled appetites have led to tremendous destruction of natural resources and the oppression of peoples. Under the guise of development and modernisation, we have inflicted irreversible ecological damage to the forests, oceans and hills that surround and support us. Why has our hunger been allowed to run unchecked? A total of 31 artists will be participating in Art for Nature 2006. Expect to see works by established artists like Abdul Multhalib Musa, Ahmad Zakii Anwar, Bayu Utomo Radjikin, Jalaini Abu Hassan, Yusof Majid and many others. Proceeds from the sale of artworks will be channelled towards WWF-Malaysia’s efforts to safeguard Malaysia abundant and unique natural heritage. The event will be held at Rimbun Dahan, the home of Angela and Hijjas Kasturi, Kilometer 27, Jalan Kuang, 48050 Kuang and is open to public from September 10th until September 24th 2006, from 10am to 5pm. There will be an art talk on September 17th at Rimbun Dahan starting at 3pm. Seats to the art talk are limited. Please RSVP to confirm your participation.
