CDVC: Malaikat di Jendela & Bukak Api

Malaikat di Jendela & Bukak Api to be screened in conjunction with Cyberjaya Digital Video Competition 2004. Date: Saturday, August 7, 2004 Time: 3pm – 5.00pm Venue: Auditorium, Level 1, Balai Seni Lukis Negara, 2, Jalan Temerloh, Off Jalan Tun Razak 53200 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Malaikat di Jendela is a story about a midwife in a country village, trying to survive after losing her daughter and husband to AIDS. As a young Muslim woman, she has to understand the contradictions of her faith and her need for love, as well as the discrimination from her village. Directed by Osman Ali and produced by Julian Jayaseela. Malaikat Di Jendela stars, Ning Baizura in her most challenging role ever. Also to be screened on August 7th will be "Bukak Api" another Julian Jayaseela-Osman Ali film. Bukak Api revolves around a group of transsexual sex workers in Kuala Lumpur's red-light district. Through the myriad of characters, we are introduced to Chow Kit and the colourful sex worker community of Kuala Lumpur. And to cap off the evening, let Ho Yuhang take you on a journey back into time in Classrooms. The film, takes us to the S-21; A building in the heart of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It is also known as Tuol Seng. Under the harsh Khmer Rouge Communist regime in the mid-70s, at least 16,000 Cambodians died in this torture chamber. The S-21 is one of the many so-called "killing fields" that played a role in that time of darkness in Cambodian history. Admission to these screenings are FREE. So come early to get the best seats in the house. Julian Jayaseela and Osman Ali will also be on hand to answer some of your questions.
